SKÅL INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS 2022

SUSTAINABLE TOURISM AWARDS

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary, the SKÅL International Sustainable Tourism Awards were presented during the opening ceremony of the 81st SKÅL International World Congress.

Guest of honour at the ceremony was Mr. Ion Vilcu, Director of Affiliate Members Department at the United National World Tourism Organisation [UNWTO].

An Affiliate Member of the UNWTO since 1984, SKÅL International launched its ‘Sustainable Tourism Awards’ to coincide with the UN declaration of 2002 as the Year of Ecotourism and the Mountains. Since then, almost 1,000 companies have entered the awards.

This year, a total of 50 entrants from 23 countries competed for a prize in the nine available categories including Major Tourist Attractions, Marine and Coastal, Rural Accommodation, Countryside and Biodiversity.

Among the winners, Australia, New Zealand, North and South America made a strong showing.  We extend our congratulations to the winners and hope that the 2023 edition will see a representative from the Asia region up there on the prize-winning podium.
