Dear Skålleagues,

Greetings and I hope your summer is going well and the return of tourism is having a positive impact on your business and your community. 

 Our AGM and annual congress this year was held in Phuket in June and despite being a  smaller gathering, it was certainly an eye-opener and done in the true spirit of SKÅL. 

 It was also very motivational as we heard from several experts on the theme of sustainable tourism and the impact of the global climate crisis on our industry.  An update on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals [SDGs] was a stark reminder that the world still has a long way to go to achieve the goals that were set out for 2030.

Importantly, it was thought-provoking to see data on new trends in travel and the significant changes we need to make in conducting our lives and our businesses. See the report on our meeting below. 

At SKÅL Thailand we’re committed to be an advocate for sustainability and as such we will be  allocating a small budget THB5,000 for each of our 6 clubs to stage an 'eco event' over the next 6 months and I look forward to seeing your creative ideas and initiatives. 

I would also urge you to learn more about the SKÅL  International Sustainability Awards and the opportunity to share your best practices with our global network.  

I would like to take this opportunity to officially congratulate our Skalleagues in Koh Samui on staging a super successful international jazz festival enjoyed by some 500 local and visiting fans. A fantastic initiative which showcased world-class musical entertainment, our members’ hotels and beach clubs, our commitment to promoting tourism to Thailand, and our collective conscience to support our respective communities. Bravo and thank you SKÅL Samui!
