SKÅL International Krabi Setting an Example for Sustainable Tourism

Krabi is truly nature’s paradise, famous for its extraordinary limestone ‘karst’ landscape, its breath-taking beaches and islands and coral reef vistas which are among the world’s most beautiful.

Surrounded by so much beauty and nature, SKÅL International Krabi is the key driver of SKÅL International Thailand’s campaign to promote sustainable tourism as the future for Thailand’s hospitality and travel industry.

Wolfgang Grimm, President of SKÅL International Thailand, ecopreneur and owner of award-winning Anana Eco-Resort Krabi is a passionate proponent of eco-tourism and believes this is the only way forward with the world in climate crisis.

Setting his award-winning resort as an example of how hotels and resorts seeking a greener, more sustainable future can easily adjust their operations, he says, “Our ecological commitment is at the heart of our operations and drives our daily managerial decision, in short - to protect nature by replacing/compensating whatever we take from nature.” says Wolfgang.

The award-winning Anana Eco Resort Krabi - setting an example for sustainable tourism in Thailand

A Sustainable Future is Everybody’s Bees-Ness!

In its drive to halt biodiversity loss as climate crisis rises up the political agenda, Brussels [HQ of the EU] is pushing ahead with targets to improve natural ecosystems in over a fifth of its land and sea by 2030. High on this target list is increasing the number of bees.

SKÅL International Thailand (SIT), President, Wolfgang Grimm – self-confessed ecopreneur and owner of the award-winning Anana EcoResort Krabi – and one of Thailand’s leading proponents of sustainability, is on a mission to involve his organisation in playing its part in this essential environmental initiative here in Thailand.

Bees are vital to the future food supply of the world,“ says Wolfgang, almost 90% of wild plants and 75% of leading global crops depend on animal pollination. Reviving the bee population of this country is something that we can help to support.”

SIT is planning to sponsor six bee hives – one for each of its six clubs in Thailand – which will be overseen by one club member, assisted by a Thai bee keeper who would acquire the initial Queen Bee and her female worker bees, erect and service the hive, and oversee honey production.

This is a small thing, but it can have a huge impact, and that’s our mission,” says Wolfgang.

Bee facts:

  • A bee produces a teaspoon of honey (about 5 grams) in her lifetime.

  • Bees fly the equivalent of three times around the world in air miles to produce a kilogram of honey.

  • The type of flowers the bees take their nectar from determines the honey's flavour.
