Chiang Mai Targets Increased Indian Tourism

Forum Hosted by SKAL International Chiang Mai

In its September meeting at Le Meridien Hotel Chiang Mai , SKÅL International Chiang Mai welcomed Mr. Krishna Chaitanya, Consul General of India in Chiang Mai as its guest of honour to discuss the topic ‘How Can Chiang Mai Attract More Indian Tourists?’

Acting President of SKÅL International Chiang Mai & North Thailand Mr. Vorapat Chutima and fellow Skålleagues also welcomed speakers Sanjay Datta, Managing Director, Airborne Travels Private Limited and Carl Vaz, President of Skål International India for an open discussion of ideas and initiatives to increase Indian tourist arrivals to the province.

In the first half of 2022, Thailand welcome 2.2 million visitors and over 10% of which are from India, more than any other country.  The Tourism Authority of Thailand [TAT] is now proposing to increase this by lengthening visas on arrival from 15 days to 45 days and tourist visas from 30 days to 45 days as well. “Since the easing of the pandemic, Chiang Mai Province has seen more reservations and visitors coming from India, so entrepreneurs and tourism agencies need to prepare themselves to provide accommodations and experiences to meet the demands of these tourists,” said Mr. Chaitanya.
